Act Now: NO on SB 183

Description of Bill: An Act to declare certain contract provisions regarding abortion as deceptive acts or practices.

The gestational agreement does NOT limit the right of a carrier to make her own healthcare decisions, including the decision to reduce or terminate her pregnancy.

SB 183 is unnecessary – a woman cannot be compelled to have an abortion in a gestational carrier agreement. Yet SB 183 threatens the protections provided in such an agreement by including language that invalidates the contract altogether, placing all participants in the surrogacy process at risk: the parents, surrogates, and the children born through the surrogacy process.

Half of all infertility is caused by a combination of problems in both partners or, is unexplained.

Luckily, nearly 90% of infertility cases are treatable with medical therapies such as drug treatment, surgical repair of reproductive organs and assisted reproductive techniques such as intrauterine insemination and in vitro fertilization.
